Mentoring in St Vrain: Enhancing Student and Teacher Achievement

Mentoring is a vital part of the induction process, and we know that mentors, teachers and students all benefit. This class provides mentors with skills and information needed to support licensed staff new to St. Vrain Valley Schools. The Schoology modules are designed to provide opportunities for classroom application.

This course is designed for General and Special Education teachers, as well as counselors.  Itinerants and nurses should speak to their supervisors for mentor guidance.

The objectives of this class include the following:

  • Create a shared vision of what good mentoring looks like in SVVSD
  • Build effective mentoring relationships through trust
  • Use effective listening skills and verbal tools while engaging in structured conversations
  • Utilize one of four stances when mentoring teachers
  • Use video in the mentoring process
  • Follow planning, reflecting, and problem-solving templates in mentoring conversations
  • Address common challenges in the mentoring process
