Math Recovery Specialist, Part 1

(MRSp1) is a professional development course that builds a high level of expertise in Math Recovery content and pedagogy.  MRSp1 includes the comprehensive, research-based Learning Framework in Number, offering detailed learning progressions and pedagogical tools for assessment and teaching. Part one of the two-part series focuses on the topics of addition and subtraction, structuring numbers, number word sequences, numeral identification, and conceptual place value.

Participants are required to attend all six virtual sessions and nine in-person sessions provided by Seaborg Mathematics and Science Center & Central MiSTEM Network at NMU.

  • Virtual Sessions (6 days / 2 hours): October 25, November 1 & 2, December 6 & 16, 2021; May 2, 2022 | Times: 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • In-Person Sessions (9 days): November 16-18, 2021: January 11-13; March 1-3, 2022 | Times: 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • SCECHs and Graduate Credit available
  • Lunch included at face to face sessions.
  • Substitute teachers are the responsibility of your district.
Target Audience

Title 1 Teachers, K-5 Special Education Teachers, Math Interventionists

Participants will engage in 100 hours of 1:1 and/or small group math intervention with students throughout the course, and will receive one-on-one coaching sessions, access to online learning modules, virtual video share opportunities, and assessment and teaching materials to support this work.  Upon completion of MRSp1, participants will be well prepared to implement targeted intervention and will be valuable resource for supporting school or district wide mathematics initiatives.  SCECH and graduate credit will be available.
