Mandated Child Abuse Reporting Training

IU 8 is trained to provide training through the PA Family Support Alliance (PAFSA).  PAFSA is an approvided provider for the Department of Human Services for training requirements with the PA Department of Education and Department of State.

Participants required to obtain training for license renewal under Act 31 will be given an on-line form to complete after the training for PAFSA to submit CE hours.  PA certified educators will be given a form for submission of Act 48 hours. 
Please check back as additional sessions will be scheduled.

This session is targeted for substitute employees, contractors, employees or volunteers working with school districts within the IU 8 service area (Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Somerset Counties). 

Participants should bring a pen or pencil to this training.  PA Certificated Educators please bring your PPID number for Act 48.

IU 8 staff - If you are an IU 8 employees please mark "PO" as your payment.  When applicable teachers and paraprofessionals may obtain in-service hours.

The $5 nonrefundable registration fee is required to cover the cost of the participant workbook and processing.

Please note - this training is held at IU 8 sites so please make note of the site you are selecting to attend.

Training will provide information related to the requirements of mandated reporting of child abuse and neglect as defined by the Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law.  For educators, this is one component of the Act 126 requirements.  Other requirements of the Act include the school entity's policies related to reporting suspected abuse and sexual misconduct and maintenance of professional and appropriate relationships with students. 


Training Objectives:

  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of child abuse / neglect

  • Review the elements of child abuse including categories of abuse and associated indicators

  • Learn how to properly report cases of suspected child abuse / neglect

  • Become familiar with responsibilities and protections under the law

  • Provide a better understanding of the County Children & Youth agencies and the roles played when suspected abuse and/or neglect is reported  
Target Audience
This session is for substitute employees, contractors and volunteers for districts with in our service area (Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Somerset Counties).  Other school district staff in this area may also attend.
