Talk Moves for Secondary Science

This course will introduce participants to a set of principles and guiding talk moves that help develop a culture of talk in the classroom. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the nature of science and be able to deepen their support of rigorous scientific discourse with their students. This course consists of 1 day in-person learning with 2 follow up virtual learning sessions.

Learner Outcomes
|
Participants will be able to support productive science discussions in their classrooms. Participants will learn how to establish classroom norms that support academic discussion. Participants will become familiar with multiple talk move tools and have time to practice these moves in their own classes. Participants will deepen their understanding of the nature of science. Participants will learn how to use intentional discussion formats to assist students who continue to struggle with science engagement.
