HIV/STI Prevention & Sex Ed Framework for Secondary Education
|
This workshop for 7th-12th grade teachers facilitates best practices in instruction, curriculum selection, & laws around reproductive health education and HIV prevention education in Michigan. Workshop content includes updates around HIV & other STI trends, a law and compliance review, facilitating student access to services, answering challenging questions, and working with sex ed advisory boards. Michigan Model for Health HIV and Reproductive Health lessons are disseminated. Educators should check with their sex education supervisor for a thorough understanding of what curriculum content is permitted in their school building. Per Michigan law, any teacher teaching HIV or sex education must go through this training prior to instruction. It is also strongly suggested that anyone teaching Sex Ed or HIV attend this training once every 5 years. This training is applicable for HIV prevention educators, puberty, or sex-educators teaching grades 7-12.
Please note: This workshop is offered twice in different locations. If you are unable to attend either date and need to participate in training, please reach out to Helen Craig, School Health Coordinator, at hcraig-isd@eupschools.org for assistance. - August 16, 2023 Location: Eastern Upper Peninsula ISD, Sault Ste Marie
- February 22, 2024 Location: Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle ESD, Indian River, MI
