HIV/STI Prevention for Elementary Educators
This workshop for 4th-6th grade teachers facilitates best practices in instruction for HIV prevention education. Topics covered include curriculum selection, laws around reproductive health education and HIV prevention education in Michigan, data on HIV and other STIs, and answering challenging questions. At this workshop, 4th & 5th grade Michigan Model for Health HIV lessons are disseminated. Per Michigan law, any teacher teaching HIV must go through this training prior to instruction. It is also strongly suggested that anyone teaching Sex Ed or HIV attend this training once every 5 years. This training is applicable for HIV prevention educators, puberty, or sex-educators teaching grades 4-6.

Please note: This workshop is offered twice in different locations. If you are unable to attend either date and need to participate in the training, please reach out to Helen Craig, School Health Coordinator, at for assistance.
  • August 15, 2023 location: Eastern Upper Peninsula ISD - Sault Ste. Marie, MI
  • February 21, 2024 location: Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle ESD - Indian River, MI

Lunch will be provided to those who register 24 hours prior.

Up to five (5) SCECHs will be available.
