Reconsidering and Reframing Autistic Social Skills with Caroline Gaddy - WATCH PARTY
Learn how autistic people may communicate in ways that are different but meaningful. In this session, we’ll talk about common misunderstandings, explore ways to build stronger two-way connections, and practice using positive language that highlights student strengths.
Target Audience
Any staff supporting students with autism
Learner Outcomes
1. Identify 2 key features of Autistic Communication 2. Define the double empathy problem and identify ways it may relate to therapeutic support for Autistic individuals 3. Apply a strengths-based, anti-ableist reframing to deficit-model- language commonly used in reports and conversations with caregivers
