10 to 25: Leading Schools Where Young People Thrive is a research-based, job-embedded leadership course designed to help school and system leaders better understand the science of adolescent motivation and apply that understanding to their own schools and districts.

David Yeager's 10 to 25: The Science of Motivating Young People serves as the anchor text for an examination of research related to adolescent development, motivation, status, respect, belonging, autonomy, growth mindset, and the mentor mindset.

Rather than approaching student motivation as an individual student characteristic, participants will examine how school structures, adult behaviors, instructional practices, policies, and organizational conditions can influence student motivation and engagement.

Participants will explore the following overarching concepts:

• The developmental science of motivation among young people ages 10–25.
• Adolescents' heightened sensitivity to status, respect, belonging, and social experiences.
• The mentor mindset and the relationship between high expectations, support, and respect.
• Growth mindset and the role school context plays in supporting or undermining student motivation.
• Autonomy, competence, and relatedness as conditions that contribute to intrinsic motivation.
• The relationship between school climate, student belonging, behavior, attendance, engagement, and academic performance.
• The use of school and district data to understand student experiences and identify problems of practice.
• Leadership practices and organizational structures that can be redesigned to increase student motivation, agency, belonging, and engagement.
• The use of inquiry and evidence to evaluate the impact of leadership actions.
