First Up- Cohort Community of Practice (5 DAY)

Goals for ELS Team:

• Introduce anti-bias education (ABE) and its role in early intervention services.

• Encourage discussion and self-reflection among staff and provide actionable strategies to incorporate ABE into staffs’ daily work with families. 

• Help participants recognize how biases manifest in their professional lives. 

Syllabus

My Personal Racial Journey (2 hours)

Goals:

-Reflect and share personal racial experiences and narratives.

-Discuss discomfort, share, fear, and vulnerability as internal states of being that impact our work.

-Share strategies for navigating racial harm and conversations about race among adults.

 

 

Recognizing Bias (2 hours)

Goals:

-Gain tools and resources for leaders to identify and address biases within themselves, their teams, and their organizations.

-Discuss strategies for creating anti-bias practices and environments that promote positive identity development, empathy, and cultural competence among children and adults alike.

 

 

What is My Role: Race and My Profession (2 hours)

Goals:

-Understand the history of childcare in America.

-Analyze the ways race, class, and gender impact the care of young children.

-Gain an appreciation for resistance to discrimination in early learning spaces.

 

 

Creating Culturally Responsive Learning Environments (2 hours)

Goals:

-Explore practical strategies designed for early childhood leaders to support their staff in creating inclusive and culturally responsive environments.

-Discuss ways to empower educators to integrate diverse perspectives, cultures, and identities into their practice, considering the unique needs of young children and their families.

-Provide concrete examples and guidance on how leaders can facilitate the implementation of culturally responsive practices that celebrate diversity and promote a sense of belonging and respect among all stakeholders.

 

 

Strategic Visioning for Anti-Bias Education Leadership (2 hours)

Goals:

-Define a vision statement aligned with Anti-Bias Education principles.

-Identify goals and objectives for organizational change.

-Create a roadmap for implementation and sustainability.
