Literacy Research to Classroom Practice: Structured Literacy and Reading Horizons
This session will address how changes in literacy research and policy aim to strengthen students’ foundational skills through structured literacy and evidence-based practices. Participants will build a shared understanding of structured literacy and Reading Horizons’ systematic scope and sequence, including explicit instruction and multisensory routines aligned to the science of reading. The session will also highlight evidence-based practices that support multilingual learners and students with language disabilities.
Build your understanding and get your questions answered about the Illinois Comprehensive Literacy Plan, the Universal Early Literacy Screening mandate, the “science of reading”, and structured literacy. Leave with practical strategies from real classrooms that support decoding, encoding, and fluency that will help you hit the ground running in the fall.
