The Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) is a research-based teaching method used to improve students’ academic learning. Through its eight components of detailed guidance, SIOP explicitly states the best practices necessary for academic success. In addition to learning about SIOP, participants in this class will explore issues such as culture, second language acquisition, and classroom factors affecting the learning of their students as related to their practice. NOTE: Participants will be expected to go back to their classrooms, employ an aspect of SIOP, and return to share their experiences with other participants each week. This course is open to K-6 teachers with ELL´s in their classrooms. Inservice credit is only available if this course is taken during non-contract hours.
