This session will focus on balanced literacy with an emphasis on guided reading. A district´s high school AYP score in English Language Arts area will now be based solely on "ACT reading scores". Many students find the reading section of the ACT daunting. This test requires that students read and comprehend very complex text. The intent of this professional development session is to provide teachers with strategies and procedures to help students engage with more complex text. Comprehension strategies that help students before, during, and after reading will be addressed. THIS SESSION IS ONLY OPEN TO TEACHERS IN THE HPSI PROJECT.
