This session will focus on balanced literacy with an emphasis on guided reading. A district´s high school AYP score in English Language Arts area will now be based solely on "ACT reading scores". Many students find the reading section of the ACT daunting. This test requires that students read and comprehend very complex text. The intent of this professional development session is to provide teachers with strategies and procedures to help students engage with more complex text. Comprehension strategies that help students before, during, and after reading will be addressed. THIS SESSION IS ONLY OPEN TO TEACHERS IN THE HPSI PROJECT. Planning for Process Mentors only for the purpose of planning school visits and evaluating school improvement plans.Presenting Data Subcategory This program is for Mentors to review their data reports whtat will be submitted to schools in the Jump Start Program.Process Mentor Team Orientation Subcategory This is an orientation program for Phase 1 and 2 schools in the High Priority Schools Project. The Process Mentor protocol will be updated and RESA mentors and coaches will be available to work with school improvement teams in updating their school improvement plans and scheduling professional development opportunities. School Improvement team members and principals are encouraged to attend. This program is for Mentors and HPSI Personnel that will be providing HPSI schools with support in the use of Smart Boards, teleconferencing and delivery of professional development.Teachers and Coaches Subcategory This is a series of workshops that will provide information and support to 11th grade teachers with tools for their students in preparation for Standardized Test in Mathematics. This is for teachers in Title 1 - High Priority Schools only. Teachers will engage in a professional learning community involving Cognitive Tutor Algebra 1 teachers that will enhance student learning through data collection and analysis, aligning state standards to instructional delivery, assessments and research-based best practices. These sessions are for teachers in Title 1 - High Priority Schools in Wayne County.
