      Frederick High School Algebra 1
Target Group: Frederick High math and science teachers, Coal Ridge Middle School 8th grade teachers, Thunder Valley 8th grade Math teachers

Algebra 1 is a gateway course and this project will address the need to make sure all 9th grade students in Algebra 1 have access to all Algebra 1 standards.

In this course we will begin with the district timeline and then identify the standards addressed in each unit and discuss exactly what type of assessment items we want to use to address those standards. Then we will organize units of instructional resources that will be expected to be used in each Algebra 1 class for continuity and equity.

      Introduction to Blended Learning - Summer 2020 [A]
Target Group: SVVSD Licensed teachers and Administrators

This course provides students with the opportunity to closely examine various models of blended learning in order to reflect on and refine current teaching practices. Participants will develop common vocabulary and clearly identify and explore components of a high quality Blended Model. Participants will implement a model specific to their content and classroom environment.

Opportunity to earn Blended Learning Credential through the iLearn Collaborative with a combination of 6 Blended Badges or 3 Blended Badges and the year long Blended Collaborative.

Times: Hybrid-Asynchronous Online Content, with optional synchronous Webex meetings.

      Powerful Teaching: Reading and Exploration
Target Group: Teachers and Administrators

We will use the book, "Powerful Teaching" by, Patrice Bain and Pooja Agarwal to dive into the Science of Learning and explore ways to increase retention for all. This book will be our guide as we explore different tools and strategies that you can use in your classes immediately.

This book study will allow participants to build a strong foundation in brain-based teaching and the ability to move into innovative teaching.

The book will be provided, at no cost to each registrant. Please register early to ensure the books are available at the start of the session.

      Savvy Tools for Savvy Readers - Elementary - Summer 2020
Target group: Intermediate teachers (grades 3-5)

Participants will gain knowledge of book level, content level, and text complexity through an exploration of novels.

The class is a 8-week online class. There will not be any face-to-face meetings. Participants will be required to check in weekly for discussions and assignment submissions. Using the District Digital Library will be part of the class.

Requirements for the course:

  • Read 3 novels of choice and one required read
  • Complete text complexity activity for each
  • Engage in the weekly activities and discussion questions with a minimum of an initial response and at least one reply to another participant.

Target Group: SVVSD Licensed Teachers and Administrators

Prerequisite: Introduction to Blended Learning or past participation in the Blended Collaborative

This course introduces flipped classrooms. Participants will examine elements of a flipped classroom and how this blended learning model engages students through myriad strategies for flipping specific content and activities. By the end of the course, participants will create a flipped lesson and accompanying materials for supporting the successful implementation of a flipped classroom in their blended setting.

      SVVS Blended Badge: Inquiry in the Blended Classroom [A]
Target Group: SVVSD Licensed teachers and Administrators

Prerequisite: Introduction to Blended Learning or past participation in the Blended Collaborative

This course introduces inquiry learning in a blended classroom. Participants will identify elements of an inquiry based classroom based on research findings, determining the most effective instructional practices.

This course will explore different elements of Blended transformed class time including: Choice boards, genius hour, Design thinking and PBL. Participants will reflect on their own instructional practice, examining existing units of study or planning new ones that integrate active learning strategies in their blended classrooms through posing challenge questions, problems, or scenarios in order to develop an authentic project-based learning environment.

Target Group: SVVSD Licensed Teachers and Administrators

Prerequisite: Introduction to Blended Learning or past participation in the Blended Collaborative.

This course provides students with the opportunity to closely examine strategies for using data analytics to personalize learning. Participants will explore strategies on how to use digital tools to give timely, quality, and actionable feedback in both a Blended and Distance learning setting. Participants will understand how to use data to develop course content and drive blended instruction.

      SVVS Blended Badge: Station Rotation [A]
Target Group: SVVS Licensed Teachers and Administrators

Prerequisite: Introduction to Blended Learning or past participation in the Blended Collaborative

This course provides participants with the opportunity to study aspects of blended learning models with a focus on Rotation Models. Participants will explore various models including strategies for distance learning including asynchronous online learning with in-person small group transformed class time opportunities. Strategies include content development, student engagement and classroom management.

      The Power of Making Thinking Visible
Target Group: Classroom teachers at all grade levels, Interventionists, Administrators and Coaches     

Remember the popular book "Making Thinking Visible"?Project Zero has a new book out full of research based strategies called "The Power of Making Thinking Visible"! This course will assist teachers at all grade levels to more clearly define the mental work they want their students to perform. Participants will use the book, "The Power of Making Thinking Visible", to explore a variety of routines to engage students in a culture of thinking. The routines, developed by researchers at Project Zero at Harvard, involve students in thinking, planning, creating, questioning, and inquiring to develop deep understanding in any content area. Participants will walk away with highly practical strategies for immediate implementation.
