Elementary Subcategory

Black Rock Elementary - Kindergarten enVisionmath 2.0
Target group:BREL Kindergarten teachers

Teachers will discuss the new enVisionmath curriculum, troubleshoot, share ideas and plan together.
Developing Number Sense and Computational Fluency in Grades K-5 [A]
Target group: Elementary math teachers. MS math teachers are welcome to attend. The focus of this class is to build a strong sense of number in order to facilitate efficiency around computational fluency. We will explore conceptual understanding behind computational algorithms for whole number operations and fractions to develop student number sense in grades K-5. Participants will engage in professional discussions on relevant research on developing student number sense and operational fluency and explore a variety of mathematical tasks and routines to develop these concepts in the classroom, focusing on efficiency, flexibility, and accuracy. This class is designed to increase mathematical knowledge and efficacy by doing mathematics and providing instructional strategies for the classroom in a collaborative setting.
      enVisionmath2.0 Collaboration Grades 3-5
Target group: Elementary math teachers, grades 3-5 only

This class is a Professional Learning Community space for Grades 3-5 teachers to collaborate with colleagues from around the District to share ideas, strategies, and structures to support the effective implementation of enVisionmath2.0. This class is your enVisionmath2.0 support network and life line to ensure you and your students are successful with this dynamic math program.
      enVisionmath2.0 Collaboration Grades K-2
Target group: Elementary math teaches grades K-2 only

This class is a Professional Learning Community space for Grades K-2 teachers to collaborate with colleagues from around the District to share ideas, strategies, and structures to support the effective implementation of enVisionmath2.0.       Multiplication: A Deeper Dive Grades 3-5 [A]
Target group: Elementary teachers grades 2-5

Learning how to multiply whole numbers is a major topic in elementary school. Many curricula focus on the standard algorithm for multiplying numbers; however, many students struggle with a standard algorithm. The area model of multiplication provides a different algorithm for multiplying whole numbers that the Colorado Academic Standards recognizes.

This algorithm can be developed conceptually by making connections between building rectangles with base-10 blocks to find the area of a rectangle and properties of multiplication. Although this development takes time, it supports students to build conceptual understanding of multiplication that can be used to multiply decimals and fractions and eventually polynomials. This experience provides teachers the opportunity to develop this conceptually understanding for themselves with activities that can be easily adapted for use with students.
