      April Elementary Literacy Show-Cooperative Learning [A]
Target group: Elementary educators

As part of SVVSD´s second year of implementation of its new elementary literacy materials, this course is designed to focus on a singular topic each month and provide examples of classroom practice for participant consideration. Within each episode of the course, participate will view into a colleague´s classroom and practice, hear from colleagues from aro9nd the district, and participant in reflective conversation with building-or grade-level peers. Each episode will include an application task as homework, designed to be completed within approximately one hour and to provide participants with pathways to putting their learning into practice.
      December Elementary Literacy Show-Writing
Target group: Elementary educators

Target group: For any K-3 teachers and specialists who works with students identified as having a significant reading deficiency.

  • Learn "HOW" to align your instruction with your interim and progress monitoring data you are collecting specifically focusing on the most predictive skills within the foundational components.
  • Create a Reading Triage toolkit of instructional strategies specifically focusing on phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle, foundational decoding, and the continuum of building fluency from the letter, sound, and linking to the word recognition into text reading.

      READing Foundations Academy
Target Group: K-5 teachers, literacy teachers, special education teachers, ELL teachers

This training focuses on explicit and systematic Tier 1 instruction for teachers of reading who want to implement the components and principles of scientifically based reading instruction. This dynamic course deepens educator knowledge by introducing the science of how children learn to read, illustrates the importance of all components of reading and demonstrates how to put these concepts to work in the classroom.

The class includes:

  • Phoneme articulation and the text-dependent questions
  • The outcome-driven model and data analysis
  • Phoneme-Grapheme mapping, vocabulary and read-alouds
  • Syllable types and text-dependent questions
  • Irregular words, syllable division and morphology
  • Reading fluency and writing
  • Integration and putting it all together
