Target group: Elementary Teachers, Elementary and Secondary Special Educators, Literacy Specialists, paraprofessionals

Teaching reading and writing effectively takes knowledge of the content and skill to apply the knowledge to your daily practice. This online class will guide you through 9 modules, which include topics covering foundational and advanced reading, writing, spelling and assessment. The modules have been developed by Reading Rockets, in collaboration with the Center for Effective Reading Instruction and The International Dyslexia Association. The modules are comprised of various activities including pre- and post-tests, reading assignments, watching videos, creating lessons, and applying the knowledge to your teaching. The class content will be web based, with class expectations that you complete activities and reflections using google docs while completing the modules.

The first class will be 1.5 hours face-to-face to learn about the design and expectations of the class, and to delve into the first module. The remainder of the work will be self-paced, with the completion of the class by the end of the academic semester.
