Target group: All educators who want to reflect on their own behaviors and learn how to de-escalate potential crisis situations without having to get physical with students.
Upon completion of this course, participants will:
We will also be looking at the various forms of communication and their effect on students. To do this participants must first understand the factors that influence behaviors and responses. They will reflect on their own anxieties and fears so that they can make rational and appropriate intervention decisions.
Participants will leave being familiar with ways to respond to students that are emotionally dysregulated, and have a safety plan for students in crisis.
- be able to identify an emotionally distraught student
- assess their own reactions and influence on the behaviors of the distraught student
- use learned strategies to de-escalate a potential crisis situation
