Math Dance
Target group: Secondary math teachers

Dance movement in the math classroom is a great way to get students involved in collaborating, questioning, persisting, inventing, and communicating about physical problem solving. This workshop will be led by Dr. Karl Schaffer and Mr. Erik Stern, Kennedy Center Teaching Artists. They will instruct teachers in using movement within their own classrooms to help students reach content at a deeper level. Participants will explore ways to help students learn about the mathematical concepts of patterns, combinations, symmetry, and polyhedral geometry. Participants will receive a copy of their book Math Dance.

Dr. Schaffer has a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of California at Santa Cruz, and Mr. Stern has a BA in biology from UC Santa Cruz and a MFA in Dance from Cal Arts.
