Target group: Secondary counselors, interventionists, social workers, and school psychologistsPre-requisite: Motivational Interviewing in Schools Part 1 Motivational Interviewing is an evidenced-based therapeutic method of communicating, meant to help guide others towards their inner motivation to create positive change in their lives. This course is designed to provide a general overview of Motivational Interviewing and how it applies to our work in schools. Participants will explore the theoretical and conceptual background behind Motivational Interviewing, as well as practical skills and strategies to use with students. Participants will need to have access to the book Motivational Interviewing with Adolescents and Young Adults by Sylvie Naar-King and Mariann Suarez, as well as regular access to a computer and internet. The course will be 100% online and take place via Schoology, and will incorporate a combination of independent reading, research and practice as well as collaborative discussion and information-sharing via online forums.
