IMP 1 Workshop

Target group: Secondary math teachers; IMP teachers at Silver Creek HS

Do you feel like you are working harder than your students in math class? Are you looking for ways to create a student-centered classroom focused on student ideas and thinking? This class is focused around implementing inquiry-based mathematics instruction at the secondary level, focusing on the Standards for Mathematical Practice. Participants will explore norms for the mathematics classroom, effective cooperative learning, qualities of open-ended mathematical tasks, questioning techniques, and facilitating mathematical discourse through engaging in mathematical tasks from the Interactive Mathematics Program (IMP), Years 1 & 2. Participants will also examine the units of study in IMP 1 & 2, the key mathematical concepts of each unit, and the anchor tasks. This class is open to any secondary mathematics teacher based on the breadth of content and pedagogy that will be explored.
