Developing Number Sense and Proportional Reasoning in Grades 6-8
Target Group: Middle school math teachers, HS math teachers are welcome to attend.

This class explores conceptual understanding behind computational algorithms for rational numbers (fraction division and integers) and how rational number sense is the basis for proportional reasoning in middle school, a new focus with the Colorado Academic Standards. Participants will engage in professional discussions on relevant research on developing rational number sense conceptually and the progression from ratios and rates to proportional reasoning and slope. This class is designed to increase mathematical knowledge and efficacy among participants through mathematical tasks and provide instructional strategies for the classroom in a collaborative setting.

Addresses Colorado Teacher Quality Standards: 1C, 1D
