English Language Learners: Strategies for Closing the Achievement Gap

Target Group: K-12 classroom teachers,specialists, ESL teachers, and special education teachers. You will need to register for either elementary or secondary level.This National Education Association-created training will provide strategies on methodology and pedagogy for closing the achievement gaps for all English Language Learners (ELLs) of various cultures and languages. It will support and assist educators in a fundamental understanding of how to apply current language acquisition research, theory, and practice in the classroom.Training objectives include: enable teachers to more effectively meet ELL’s acquisition level, language differences, culture and equity dynamics; understand and practice curriculum design and lesson planning based on sound pedagogical principles, practices, and high attainable standards; and obtain resources that will help increase teachers’ knowledge about effective, differentiated teaching strategies specifically addressing ELLs.
