This group will plan how to implement the Advisory program, design lessons for Advisory time, tackle issues that may arise, and continue to research best practices.

Counselors will align their counseling program with the district counseling mission and vision statement, by collaborating and sharing ideas, processes, and practices supporting the ASCA National Model. They will be share grade level classroom curriculum, course registration, career and college readiness preparation, ICAP standards, 504s, MTSS, Naviance work, social emotional learning- Sources of Strength, and ASCA model implementation.

In implementing the ASCA National Model, it has been ascertained that school counseling decisions must be supported by three factors: data, data and more data. Although school counselors typically collect information about their activities and perceptions of students and staff, data should also demonstrate concrete results of the program.

Explore the data elements school counselors can be proficient in collecting, analyzing and interpreting such as demographic data, attainment data, achievement data, student behavioral data, opportunity data and program evaluation data including process, perception and results data.

          Bullet Motivational Interviewing in Schools - Part 2
Target group: Secondary counselors, interventionists, social workers, and school psychologists

Pre-requisite: Motivational Interviewing in Schools Part 1

Motivational Interviewing is an evidenced-based therapeutic method of communicating, meant to help guide others towards their inner motivation to create positive change in their lives. This course is designed to provide a general overview of Motivational Interviewing and how it applies to our work in schools. Participants will explore the theoretical and conceptual background behind Motivational Interviewing, as well as practical skills and strategies to use with students.

Participants will need to have access to the book Motivational Interviewing with Adolescents and Young Adults by Sylvie Naar-King and Mariann Suarez, as well as regular access to a computer and internet. The course will be 100% online and take place via Schoology, and will incorporate a combination of independent reading, research and practice as well as collaborative discussion and information-sharing via online forums.
