           Building Team Relationships and Bridging Gaps [A]

Target Group:  Classified managers and Supervisors

With today’s rapid transfer of information and knowledge, collaboration and teamwork are an absolute necessity.

Effective teams have a high level of trust, open communication and a clear understanding of team strengths and abilities.

This workshop can assist team members in building stronger relationships, leveraging team strengths, and establishing effective communication guidelines.

It will consist of a variety of experiential activities designed to provide personal insights, ah-ha moments, and a shared team experience that will result in a deeper understanding of what creates a powerful team.

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will:

  • Understand the importance of commitment to team trust and cooperation through experiential activities

  • Identify how their communication style can help or hinder the team in different situations
  • Develop action plans to improve communication and team performance
           Managing and Motivating People (including cliques) [A]

Target Group: Classified Managers and Supervisors

Good employees stay in their jobs for many reasons. However, one major reason is their relationship with their manager and the working environment that the manager creates.

Successful managers create an environment where diversity of opinion, background and culture are highly valued, expectations are clear, team members respect one another, and good work is recognized and appreciated.

What results from this type of environment? Strong bonds of trust are created between manager and employee, morale is high, and the most talented employees want to stay.

In this workshop, participants will:

  • Complete a management “best practices” scorecard
  • Learn 5 ways to improve morale on their team
  • Identify how to focus on what is in their control to create a positive work environment
  • Discuss how to manage difficult situations including the negative employee and team cliques
  • Develop action plans to improve the work environment and impact motivation levels

           Classified Staff Professional Development: Comprehensive Planning

Participation is by invitation only.

This team will create a comprehensive, long range professional development plan for classified employees with strategies for phasing in various activities to meet classified employee needs.

           Mentor Training for Classified Staff Mentors [A]

Target Audience: Classified Mentor candidates only

This course enhances the mentoring knowledge and skills of new classified mentor candidates who have completed the classified mentor application process and may be mentoring new or transferred classified employees in St. Vrain Valley School District. The course includes development of new mentor´s:

  • Knowledge of the classified mentor program in St. Vrain Valley School District;

  • Knowledge and skills in helping new employees set goals, design action plans, access training resources, assess progress, and design "next steps" in their learning experiences to ensure new employees receive consistent, quality orientation and training for their new role and responsibilities; and

  • Skill in building rapport and communicating effectively with new employees as they work together to solve problems and resolve issues related to their new job.

This course is required for all classified employees interested in becoming classified mentors and have been approved for the program.

Participants must attend both days and complete all course assignments in order to complete the course successfully and receive credit.

           Keyboarding - Beyond Hunt and Peck (on-line course)

Target Group: St. Vrain Classified Staff who are not on contract time during the two meeting dates for this class (for example: bus drivers, night custodians. etc.

Want to learn the skills required to move from hunt and peck typing to more efficient and accurate typing using proper keyboard form?

This is the one for you! It provides an introduction to and practice for the skills required to type using a computer keyboard effectively and efficiently.

Typing skill takes practice so this class will require you to practice each of 18 skill sets and submit your best effort to an online instructor. Instructions and practice exercises will be provided online.

You will progress at your own pace but must complete the assignments by the last meeting date.

There will be 18 lessons with practice exercises – estimated time per lesson is ½ hour.

Requirements: Participants must attend both scheduled sessions and complete all assignments to receive credit.
