From September 2021 through May 2022, SJCISD professionals will meet with music therapist, Louie Morand, both virtually and in-person (September and May) to collaborate and create original music exercises that reflect each component of the Social Emotional Learning wheel. Extant research indicates that music can have a powerful effect on a young person’s development in all areas outlined in SEL.
In clinical applications, studies show that self-regulation, socialization, cognition (learning/memory), and establishing beliefs and values related to specific themes may all be positively impacted in school settings.
Through the course of this project, SJCISD professionals will create a “toolbox” of original music-based activities and songs meant to be used with youth that they serve.
Participants will be expected to attend all sessions.
September and May sessions are in-person, with locations TBD. All other sessions are virtual.
