Differentiation: Mini-Lessons


Participants will leave with an action plan for creating mini lessons based on curriculum standards, including opportunities to build and work with a network of teachers trying differentiation for the first time. Not only will participants be provided process time to apply what they learn, but they will also benefit from experiencing differentiation as a learner. All participants are required to provide data and artifacts that demonstrate how they have implemented the structures and procedures addressed in the workshop. Learning Outcomes: Participants will… learn the structure of a mini-lesson while addressing student learning styles learn ways to maximize student engagement during the mini-lesson (pacing, every child/every day) be provided models of PPT mini-lessons practice formative checks using a variety of resources, including iPads chart assessment data (pre and post assessment data/ progress monitoring) create procedures that will allow students to succeed in work stations, attending to standards (unpacking and student monitoring) and vocabulary development, the use of digital resources, and the use of manipulatives Recommended for teachers… Willing to implement differentiation into their classroom this school year Willing to collect data, artifacts (video, pictures, lessons, checklists) to show how they are implementing differentiation Needing clarification about how to best provide whole group instruction to optimize learning during the instructional core. What to Bring: • Laptop or Ipad • Class lists • Curriculum Standards • Artifacts that demonstrate you have created and implemented behavioral expectations, standard and vocabulary procedures, classroom work stations/organization centers Recommended Pre-requisite: Differentiated Tier 1 Reading Instruction OR Managing the Differentiated Classroom
