Art and Science of Teaching - Maria Foseid
Maria Foseid, from Marzano & Associates, will guide participants in learning how to integrate the content of Classroom Instruction that Works and Classroom Management that Works into an integrated instructional model to drive classroom performance. She will focus on the essential question contained in the book The Art and Science of Teaching, helping individuals to apply these in their daily classroom instruction..
Some of the key questions that will be considered include:
What will I do to establish and communicate learning goals?
What will I do to help students effectively interact with new knowledge?
What will I do to help students practice and deepen their understanding of new knowledge?
What will I do to help students generate and test hypotheses about new knowledge?
What will I do to engage students?
What will I do to establish or maintain classroom rules and procedures?
What will I do to recognize and acknowledge adherence and lack of adherence to classroom rules and procedures?
What will I do to establish and maintain effective relationships with students?

Child Abuse and Prevention Treatment Act and Early On
The purpose of this training is to increase the knowledge of Early On personnel and Department of Human Services (DHS) Child Protective Services (CPS) staff in the requirements and process for referring children from DHS to Early On. Both systems need to be aware of the requirements set forth in the Child Abuse and Prevention Treatment Act (CAPTA) and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
At the end of the training, participants will have an understanding of how each system takes children, birth to three, through the process. Child welfare and outcomes should be improved when systems understand the requirements of one another.

Essential Elements of a A Trauma Informed System for Young Children
This training will look at the impact of trauma on a young child’s brain. Young children and complex trauma will be explored through attachment, affect regulation, behavior and neurodevelopment. Training will provide an overview of core elements of intervention with young children exposed to trauma.
Frontline Luncheon Reactive Attachment Disorder
Julie Ribaudo has a private practice in metropolitan Detroit. She has focused her clinical work on parent-infant relationships; support to teachers and caregivers of challenging infants, toddlers and children; assessment and treatment of abused and/or neglected infants, toddlers and young children; and infants, toddlers and young children in foster care and post-adoption. Ms Ribaudo´s practice also includes working with adults to resolve issues of depression, anxiety and childhood trauma.

Module II: Comprehensive Assessment of Young Children exposed to Trauma
Follow-up Presentation to Understanding the Impact of Traumatic Stress on Young Children)This second training (3 hours) will focus on assessment of young children exposed to trauma including the impact on the attachment process. The assessment module will cover:
•Utilizing Standardized Developmental Assessment to Identify Traumatic Impact
•Assessing Attachment in Young Children
•Utilizing the Trauma Symptom Checklist for Young Children
Ready to Learn - Public Television and You: Good Books, Activities, & Healthy TV for Growing Minds
Parents, grandparents, and caregivers of children from 0-5 years are invited to attend this instructional and entertaining workshop with their young children. 1st half hour: Adults meet with WGVU personnel to learn how to encourage your young child to read wit the help of PBS programs, materials and activities in the library’s community room while Jennifer Tice, Youth Services Librarian, reads to and supervises your young children in the youth department of the library. 2nd half hour: children join their adults in the meeting room for the conclusion of the WGVU program presentation.
Each family will receive a FREE BOOK courtesy of the St. Joseph county Literacy Council, Great Start, and the Three Rivers Public Library: A Parent’s Guide to Reading with Your Young Child by Susan Neuman.

Technology Integration Network (TIN)
Teachers and/or Media Specialists who are interested in learning more about technology resources and how to integrate technology into the curriculum.
As a result of on-going participation in this Network, participants will receive and disseminate information, resources, support,etc.; become a technology liaison for their school; provide input on "custom made" technology professional development; help to build capacity within the buildings within St. Joseph County; learn to support the core curriculum through technology.
