Aggressors, Victims, and Bystanders® is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a Promising Program under the Safe and Drug-Free Schools Guidelines. This Middle School training is designed to teach "thinking" and "acting" before reacting.
Description:
* A 12 lesson curriculum designed to prevent or reduce violence by altering patterns of thought and action amoung youth in grades 6 to 9. The foundation of the curriculum is the think-first model that teaches youth to deal with stressful situations by first taking a moment to deliberately remain calm, consider the situation in order to ensure they are accurately interpreting it, and decide on a way to respond to the situation that is nonaggressive.

P.A. 139 of 1990 contains four significant elements:
....it mandates training for persons teaching 4th-12th pupils about HIV infection and AIDS: The exception is licensed health care profesionals.
....it requires the Department of Education and Community Health to "train trainers to provide teacher training" and to develop and distribute materials on the teaching of HIV/AIDS to school districts.
....it mandates implementation of a board approved curricula "in the school setting" not later than October 1, 1990.
....it mandates that HIV/AIDS prevention education be taught in every building, every year.
Although many teachers are trained in HIV/AIDS, we continue to offer sessions to help fulfill the requirements of the law.

Course Narrative: Teen’s use of technology has grown exponentially over the past 10 years. Most teens use technology appropriately. However, many teens put themselves at risk when they share private information with contacts they make on the internet. Predators are savvy at seeking out youth to connect with and can easily trick a teen into giving away information that should remain private. Dr. David Hall will address issues related to teen’s use of technology and explore teen impulsiveness, cell phone texting, online
networking (Facebook/Myspace), cyberbullying, and more. Participants will understand:
- the current use of technology by youth.
- the traps teens fall into when using technology.
- how predators trick youth into giving private information.

These will include the law and advisory council requirements, age appropriate activities that address hygiene, puberty education, healthy relationships, current trends and data on youth, what works in sexuality education and more.

Understand the legal implications for teaching reproductive health/sex education.
