4th Grade Social Studies Network 2009-2010

October 13, December 2, 2009, February 2, April 20, May 11,2010-4:30-8:00 p.m.

This series is designed to help teachers implement the new grade level content expectations,United States Studies, for fourth grade. Using the units of study for fourth grade developed by the Michigan Citizenship Curriculum Collaborative teachers will examine best practices in the teaching of social studies and learn practical instructional strategies for use in their classroom. We will examine techniques to develop content literacy and explore literature connections to social studies content. We will meet August 19 for a kick off session followed by five after-school sessions scheduled throughout the year. Simultaneous network meetings will be held at Oakland, Berrien, Macomb and Genesee ISDs which will allow participants the opportunity to connect with teachers in these locations. The series is open to general and special education teachers, curriculum specialists and grade-level leaders.

Cost:
  • $150 (6 sessions, light refreshments & materials)
  • $75 (last year’s participants of 4th Grade Social Studies Network—-must bring last year’s materials)
