Play guitar now? You know just how cool the electric guitar can be. But nothing is cooler than rocking out on a guitar you have designed and built yourself! Learn the steps to produce a professional quality electric instrument, choose the electric components, build fro raw stock, finish, set-up, and best of all play your very own electric instrument. This will not be building from a supplied kit. You will go from raw lumber to a finished instrument!
Topics covered will include:
- Shop safety and proper handling of tools
- Guitar basics and design essentials
- Wood varieties and tonal variations
- Electronic choices, hardware choices
- Band saw and rough shaping of body
- Routing of body
- Finish sanding
- Mock up instrument
- Finish choices and finishing
- Final assembly and set-up of guitar
This is a completely hands-on course. Students should have a basic understanding of the guitar and of basic shop tools (band saw, drill press, router, sanders), but a general familiarity with these things is fine. Expect to stretch your skills as you design and build a fine quality instrument you can truly call your own.
Please note: After consultation with the instructor, students will have to purchase their own electronic parts.
