George Washington - AE HIST 101
|
George Washington was one of the greatest men that ever lived, and governed our country. Born of a Virginia plantation owner, he was a surveyor at a very young age, and drew up land boundaries in the Virginia, Pennsylvania area. He became a British officer in the local militia, and served in the French and Indian War, but was a failure in military warfare. Washington had a problem with the Governor of Virginia, and by 1774 he sympathized with the people of the colonies regarding British rule and taxes. He renounced the British government and military authority. George Washington was elected Commander-In-Chief of the Continental Army in 1775. He led our country to victory, against incredible odds, and against the greatest nation in the world at the time. Washington became our first President. He has to borrow money to go to his inauguration. George Washington is honored for his sacrifices of family, and personal ambitions, to become "The Father of Our Country." There is much more to know about this man who struggled, and gave up everything, in order that our country would survive against British tyranny.
