Business Skills for Engineers and Scientists - AE CT 121
As people in technical fields advance in their careers, soft skills take on greater and greater importance. Unfortunately, formal academic education and corporate training rarely teach successful social behaviors and geeks find themselves hindered by lack of interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. This course fills that gap. Students will learn how to improve communication skills, navigate office politics, increase emotional intelligence and much more! This course is appropriate for engineers, software developers, scientists and other geeks who want to learn how to work more effectively with other human beings. The classes are centered on hands-on activities which are preceded by a short lecture and then followed by a class discussion. For example, a lecture on an aspect of communication will be followed by playing the telephone game (Alice whispers something to Bob who whispers it to Charlie who whispers it to Diana). The class will then discuss what the telephone game illustrates about communication.
