American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding Course - AE CT 123

The purpose of the American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding course is to teach participants the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies both in a pool and at a waterfront environment.
Those who participate MUST:
1. Attend all class sessions
2. Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities.
3. Demonstrate successful completion in three final skill scenarios.
4. Correctly answer at least 80 percent of the questions on three written final exams.
Upon successful completion of the Waterfront Lifeguarding course, each participant will receive a certificate for Lifeguarding/Waterfront/First Aid, which is good for three years, and a certificate for CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, which is valid for one year.
Prerequisites:
1. Minimum age of 15 at the start of the course.
2. Swim 550 yards continuously using the following strokes: 200 yards front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing kick, 200 yards breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick, glide sequence 150 yards either front crawl or breaststroke.
3. Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute 40 seconds.
4. Swim 5 yards: submerge and retrieve three rings placed 5 yards apart in 4-7 feet of water; resurface and swim 5 yards to the side of the pool.
Cost of all texts and materials included in tuition. Please bring proof of age to the first class. Our instructor is a full-time Minuteman faculty member and is also the school´s swimming coach and pool director. NOTE: Students must fully attend all classes in order to be eligible for certification. (No Exceptions!) Enrollment limited to 12.
