The purpose of this 11 session course is
to train instructor candidates to teach
courses in the American Red Cross
Swimming and Water Safety program by
developing their understanding of how to
use the course materials, how to conduct
training sessions and how to evaluate
participants’ progress.
Prerequisites: age 16 on or before the final session of the course, successfully completed Fundamentals of Instructor Training, demonstrate swimming skills for 25 yards: a) front crawl, b) backcrawl, c)breaststroke, d) elementary backstroke, e) sidestroke, f ) butterfly– 15 yards.
Additional prerequisites include the ability to: a) float or scull on the back for one minute, and b) tread water for one
minute.
Note: Students must fully attend all classes in order to be eligible
for certification. (No exceptions!)
