This class is designed for those who already love, listen to, and can play some blues guitar. We may have room for a drummer and bass player too! (Please indicate on application if you are a drummer or bass player.) A basic
understanding is required of the blues form and blues harmony, as well as some basic skills in playing “rhythm guitar” and soloing in a blues style. Students who have previously completed Fundamentals of Blues I or II may also qualify.
The emphasis of the workshop will be two-fold: 1) building a repertoire of songs that are “performance ready”; and 2)developing an increased confidence performing with a live band in front of an audience.
Students will choose songs they wish to
perform and will learn to arrange and, on
selected evenings, perform them in class,
backed by a live band consisting of guitar, bass, and drums. We’ll try to simulate, as closely as possible, a typical blues jam environment.
The hope is that students will then
feel confident, and equipped with appropriate skills, to go out and participate in some of the many blues jams occurring weekly around the Metro-Boston area.
Students must bring an electric guitar (or acoustic/electric) and a small amplifier to every class.
