           Coping With Difficult People
We’ll discuss the seven types of difficult people and what you can do to minimize their de-motivating and debilitating effects. Coping means tactical intervention, not passive acceptance or hoping to change the personality of the difficult person. We’ll go over before and after sample dialogues between the difficult person and his/her victim to show you the words and strategic interventions you can use to minimize the person’s damaging effect. The seven types are the hostile-aggressive, the indecisive, the complainer, the negativist, the silent unresponsive, the know-it-all and the super-agreeable/super-unreliable.

Topics include The Basics of Any Wardrobe, where to find it, how to wear it, how to emphasize the positive and downplay the negative, how to bargain shop and how to pull it all together.

           R.A.D. Women´s Basic Self-Defense Course
The Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) System, developed by Lawrence N. Nadeau in 1989, provides women with a comprehensive selfdefense program. Th is nationally recognized and unique system is geared to teach realistic strategies and techniques against varied assaults using proven martial arts tactics. RAD is dedicated to providing women of all ages and abilities the tools required to make educated decisions and to resist physical attacks. RAD operates on the premise that a spontaneous violent attack will stimulate a natural reaction to resist on the part of the victim. Women are educated on the “fight and flight” syndrome demonstrating that the option of physical defense is not only prudent, but a necessity in the event of a violent attack. RAD encourages women to take an active role in their own self-defense and psychological wellbeing. Over the course of this 4 week program, students will be involved in a discussion of risk reduction strategies, date rape, continuum of survival, defensive strategies and the basic principles of defense. Participants will begin the process of hands-on training and they will be introduced to ground defense techniques. The program will culminate with students participating in full contact “simulated assault” scenarios with RAD instructors who will be wearing state of the art protective gear specifically designed for this training. Women have the opportunity to utilize their skills in a safe training environment monitored by instructors. All instructors are R.A.D. certified. Participants should wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle to class.
           Soft Skills for Geeks
As people in technical fields advance in their careers, soft skills take on greater and greater importance. Unfortunately, formal academic education and corporate training rarely teach successful social behaviors and geeks find themselves hindered by a lack of interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. This course fills that gap. Students will learn how to improve communication skills, navigate office politics, increase emotional intelligence, and much more! This course is appropriate for engineers, software developers, scientists and other geeks who want to learn how to work more effectively with their fellow human beings. The classes are centered on hands-on activities which are preceded by a short lecture and then followed by a class discussion. For example, a lecture on an aspect of communication will be followed by playing the telephone game (Alice whispers something to Bob who whispers it to Charlie who whispers it to Diana). The class will then discuss what the telephone game illustrates about communication.
           Time Management Methods and Psychology
You’ll learn the four elements: master list, calendar, tickler file and projected daily list(s) which comprise a complete system. We’ll then cover the three elements of the psychology of time management: overcoming procrastination, implementing moment-by-moment prioritization, and relating your time management challenges to your personal history. Topics include eliminating clutter, minimizing interruptions, maintaining a filing system that enables you to retrieve any file within three minutes, estimating the time it takes to do things, breaking down large tasks into components, implementing a portable system, creating blocks of time, and the psychology of transitioning to your new time management system. You’ll be able to apply this system using the medium that works for you: paper forms you create, paper forms you can purchase, a personal digital assistant,or computer software. Don’t be late!
