*This is a repeat workshop for those who missed out on the March 2017 Session. Previous participants are welcome to attend as a refresher.
Speech–language pathologists routinely ask for information and training on working with school-age children who stutter. The purpose of this workshop is to provide clinicians with the tools to assess the real-life impact that stuttering has on the child and their family by identifying various factors which affect the child’s ability or desire to communicate in different settings. Participants will be introduced to a dynamic assessment protocol which leads to individualized treatment plans. Practices will be reviewed in light of the current research base and functional examples will be used to demonstrate specific strategies applicable to working therapeutically with children who stutter and their families.
Participants will be able to:
1. Use the current evidence to assess stuttering in children from a multi-dimensional perspective.
2. Determine the most appropriate treatment practices for children who stutter based on their individual patterning.
3. Implement effective strategies to address the affective, behavioral and cognitive components of stuttering.
