Second Step: Student Success Through Prevention-Middle Schools - 171-3100
Session: 6127 This workshop is Not eligible for Professional Development Funds. Target Audience: 6th through 8th grade general and special educators, school psychologists, school social workers, and counselors. THE WORKSHOP: Second Step: Student Success Through Prevention, a violence prevention/social skills curriculum for Grades 6 -8, teaches skills to promote school success and prevent bullying, substance abuse and violence. The Second Step Staff Training focuses directly on how to teach this curriculum in a classroom (or agency) setting. Participants will receive hands-on experience with their grade level curriculum materials, and particular emphasis will be placed on how to teach skills in empathy and communication, bullying prevention, problem-solving, emotion management and substance abuse prevention. Participants will also learn how to target and reinforce student use of these skills. All participants receive hands-on experience and practice with the curricula and related teaching techniques. These small and large group activities provide opportunities for the instructor to directly observe participant progress and provide timely, appropriate feedback.
