PALS 2-6: Peer Assisted Learning Strategies for Students in Grades 2-6 - 1713100
Waiting list count: 1 Session: 6276 This workshop is NOT eligible for Professional Development Funds. Target Audience: PALS 2-6 is designed for classroom teachers of students in grades 2-6. THE WORKSHOP: Peer Assisted Learning Strategies (PALS) is a whole class, peer-tutoring reading supplement that utilizes four research-based strategies: -Prediction relay (using prior knowledge to predict) -Repeated reading -Retell -Paragraph Shrinking (summarizing and identifying main idea) Students read from teacher-selected material, follow scripted coaching prompts, and provide corrective feedback when working with their partners. PALS is designed to be implemented 3 days per week for 35 minutes. Students enjoy working with their classmates and look forward to participating. PALS is a research-validated program with documented improvement for above average, average, below average, and learning disabled readers. Participants will leave with hands-on experience necessary to implement all components of PALS.
