Target Audience: High School Teachers

Network Description:
These sessions are designed to help teachers implement GLCE/HSCE with the units and lessons of study from the Michigan Citizenship Collaborative Curriculum (MC3).Teachers examine best practices in the teaching of social studies and learn practical instructional strategies for use in their classroom. This will include content area literacy strategies, literature connections to social studies content, and ACT prep, where appropriate. Teachers will receive all teaching material created by MC3 as well as trade books for each unit.
Participants will
• Examine student work to make informed decisions about classroom instruction and assessment.
• Develop content literacy required to teach the GLCE/HSCEs.
• Implement units and lessons of instruction based on the MC3 and provide student work for examination.
• Understand and utilize best practices in the teaching of social studies.
• Share and discuss new learning, implementation, and applications with teachers across the state.
• Evaluate units for professional use and student learning.

6th, 7th, and HS Networks will review selected units/lessons from the curriculum, but will receive all materials.

Payment Instructions Registration is a commitment of payment. Payment must be received before session begins. All cancellations must be received in writing 7 (seven) days before the workshop date to (Carol Kubert at ckubert@misd.net). Participants canceling before 7 (seven) days WILL be eligible for the workshop reimbursement or the fee waived. All cancellations AFTER the above date and/or a “no show to the workshop” will NOT be eligible for reimbursement. Payment WILL be the responsibility of the participant. All “non cancellation and/or no show” participants will be invoiced directly to their place of employment. A notice of this “payment due” invoice will also be sent to the district office notifying the school district of the “non-cancellation or no show” status of the participant.

For participants who wish to apply for SB-CEUs (if the program offers them), please see below: For participants to earn SB-CEUs, they must attend the entire program as required by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). This means attending all sessions according to the approved schedule including arriving on time and remaining for the duration of each session. The MDE and the Macomb ISD review all programs and monitor attendance. Failure to comply with program requirements, including attendance, will result in disallowance of SB-CEU credit.
Special Instructions In case of special dietary needs, participants should provide their own meals. Adjustments will not be made in menu selections or registration fees.
