Target Audience: Teachers and Counselors

To educate teachers and counselors about the PTI Technical Academy ‘s 4-week, Saturday morning program offered to Macomb County high school students in grades 10-12 at no cost to students or school districts. This innovative program has been designed collaboratively by industry professionals from PTI Engineered Plastics (PTI) and educational leaders from the Career Technical Education department of the Macomb Intermediate School District, with PTI assuming all operational costs. The goal of the academy is to address the manufacturing sector’s talent shortage by educating the next generation of skilled workers about the careers in this modern, highly technical industry. Academy instructors are skilled professionals employed at PTI Engineered Plastics who spend their Saturday mornings teaching these young students about plastic injection molding, shop safety, CNC programming, mold making, electrical discharge machining (EDM), CAD design, mold maintenance, part design, mold design, process engineering, and quality engineering. In addition to these technical skills, the academy has intentionally emphasized the 21st Century workplace readiness skills of critical thinking & problem solving, communication, collaboration, and creativity & innovation.
