Target Audience: Secondary ELA Teachers

Join colleagues from across the county for a book study featuring the title A Novel Approach: Whole-Class Novels, Students-Centered Teaching, and Choice by Kate Roberts. This three- night event will consist of a discussion on how do teachers manage the sometimes conflicting research about whole-class or student-choice novels in secondary ELA classrooms? Is there still a place for both in today’s rigorous curriculum? Join other teachers to examine Kate Roberts’ powerful book A Novel Approach: Whole-Class Novels, Student-Centered Teaching, and Choice. We will discuss key points of the book and reflect on the suggestions Roberts makes for balancing whole-class novels and independent reading instruction in secondary classrooms.
