Finale: Maintaining Professional & Respectful Teacher/Student Relationships [A]
Target Audience: 1st, 2nd and 3rd year teachers

The teacher-student relationship is a critical aspect to students´ success in the secondary level classroom. Much research and development has gone into tracking student achievement data and comparing student performance to state standards and national norms. However, successful classroom teachers recognize that students are most concerned with being embarrassed and fearing failure. Observe for a moment a large group of students in a school setting and it is easy to see that their acceptance by peers far outweighs any letter grade from a teacher.

This session focuses on the need for teachers to manage the interpersonal climate of their classrooms as much as all other aspects of their teaching. Student learning is most productive when teachers focus on relationships and not procedures.
