Target Audience: 4th Grade Teachers
This workshop provides the participants with essential teacher background knowledge and is based upon activities selected to illustrate or enhance concepts presented in the K-7 Science Processes and the Grade Four Physical Science Grade Level Content Expectations, Grade 4-Unit 1.
There are many forms of Energy. We ask two questions to begin this workshop. Does Energy have weight? Does Energy take up space? The answer will give us a basic understanding of Energy. We will discover that Energy makes things move and is the ability to do work. There will be basic hands on experiments and demonstrations on Energy. We will examine the many ways we can transform Energy from one form to another.
Second, we develop the basic concepts of Electric Circuits on our very own circuit board. Each participant will receive one of these circuit boards to keep. With this circuit board in class, your group will fully examine the series and parallel circuits. Other major concepts and ideas introduced are conductors, insulators, fuses, diodes and some everyday applications. Look forward to a charged up workshop.

There are many forms of energy. We will identify the two most important forms of Energy, namely Potential and Kinetic. There will be basic hands on experiments and demonstrations on energy. We will examine the many ways we can transform from one form to another. The energy conversions can link together forming energy chains which form the basis of modern industry and society.
These two concepts will be further investigated with hands on activities that show the relationships between potential and kinetic energy.
Come and let us increase your understanding of energy in a way that you can easily enjoy in a relaxed atmosphere.

Are you hesitant to teach the concepts of Force and Motion? Join us as we "uncover" the important concepts of motion by developing an understanding of the nature of motion, leading to the concepts of speed, velocity and acceleration. Each concept will be investigated through demonstrations and hands-on activities.
We will be moving along with Newton’s three laws which describe how the planets move as well as the movement of an insect. Discovering for ourselves and appreciating that an object´s motion involves some form of push or pull. This push or pull is another word for force and forces are always found in pairs. We will also discover that there are two types of forces: contact and non-contact.
“Find out WHAT makes us move!” join us for a very moving workshop!

Everything around us is made up of something. This something is called matter. Matter is defined as any substance which takes up space, and has mass and volume. These properties can be measured.
Matter can exist in several states: solids, liquids and gases. We will examine how these states can be changed from one into another. Looking at the materials which make up our world shows us that they can be classified based on their physical properties.
We will examine two physical properties of matter (namely magnets, sound, and light). Our activities will develop the properties of conduction and reflection. Hands on activities and demonstrations will be used to examine these properties of matter. The workshop will approach each concept through our senses (Qualitatively) and using measurement (Quantative).

Two types of wave energy will be investigated in this workshop; Sound and Light. Both are needed to understand many aspects of our daily lives. We will build the model based upon the characteristics of Sound and Light which will be discovered through experimentation. The main characteristics of the model that will be developed are: frequency, wavelength, pitch, and amplitude.
Using our senses and mathematical abilities we will develop many hand and mind on activities. Here we will test our model and with more hands-on activities that end with applications that demonstrate it’s ability to transfer one source of energy into another.
