This is an online course offered exclsuviely to MAME members using the 21things for 21st Century Educators web site. The purpose of this course is to provide ”Just in Time” training through an online interface for K-12 educators based on the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T). These standards are the basic technology skills every educator should possess. In the process, educators will develop their own skills and discover what students need in order to meet the NETS for Students, as well as the new MMC Online Experience requirement. Participants who fulfill all of the requirements have the opportunity to earn SBCEUs.

           Blogging AM Session - (Summer Academy Participants Only)
Blogging Blogging: Short for "Web log," a specialized site that allows an individual or group of individuals to share a running log of events and personal insights with on-line audiences. Here is your opportunity to keep in touch with students, parents, and a worldwide audience! This workshop will show you how to create, maintain, and use your classroom blog. We will set up a blog (using EduBlogs), demonstrate how to use the blog (posting documents into categories), and show you how to maintain that blog by posting materials—to your new web site! Ideas for use with students included at no extra charge!

           Digital Story Telling in the Classroom PM Session- (Summer Academy Participants Only)
Digital Story Telling in the Classroom Learn how students can use digital tools to tell personal or academic stories. Digital storytelling weaves the student’s voice, with music and images to create powerful multimedia displays. In the workshop you will learn about preparing and planning with your students. Free resources your students can use for their projects. We will explore a variety of software programs you can use to create digital movies and slide shows. Digital Storytelling is fun, is a way for students to better express themselves, and meets Grade Level Expectations.

           Free Is Good - ALL DAY
This hands-on session is designed to look at programs, websites, and shortcuts that will make teaching easier and the learning environment better for students. We will cover a variety of subject areas. Each will have a short introduction and then participants will have time to experiment with the program or website. We will take as much time as needed to become familiar with what is shown and every one will leave access to links of the websites and documents used in the session. The best part, everything is free! The session is designed for classroom teachers from grades 2 – 10.

           In-Person - MOST/Blackboard Version 9 Upgrade Overview
This session will review what is new in Version 9. The session will be an overview of the key new features as well as features that have been changed. For example, there will not be a control panel in Version 9. Everything will be accessed from your course’s main page. If you cannot make this in-person session there will be one taking place online on June 2nd. There will also be a link to an overview video as well. When available that video will be posted at http://www.misd.net/bb.

           Killer Apps for Digital Photos [A]
You and your students will enjoy these "Killer apps" that make working with digital photos and creating professional products easy! Digital slideshows, albums, and stories can be used to create projects and enhance presentations. Best of all, these are programs that are free to download, or already found on most servers. You will have the opportunity to "mess around" with them and walk away with ideas you can use the next day.

           Macomb Student Technology Summer Camp: Clay Animation
Target Audience: Students 10 years to 13 years old

Enter the world of digital animation. Learn how to plan your movie, create clay characters, and make a digital movie. You will be using a digital camera, clay, and software to create an animated movie that will be published on the Internet.
All materials will be furnished.

           Macomb Student Technology Summer Camp: Digital Cameras
Target Audience: Students 10 years to 13 years old

Would you like to see your own face on Mt. Rushmore? Sign up for this class and learn how to take great digital pictures then edit them to tell your story. You will learn basic photography skills using a digital camera. You’ll also spend time on the computer editing and enhancing your photos to create fun and lasting projects.

Cameras will be furnished for your use during the class.

           Macomb Student Technology Summer Camp: Director´s Camp
Target Audience: Students 10 years to 13 years old

Preparing for the future, students will need to be well versed in media communication. Learning to convey their message effectively through digital media is invaluable.  During Director’s camp, students become directors as they create, shoot, edit their ideas into 21st century productions and learn to convey their thoughts and ideas in a powerful way. Cameras and materials will be furnished.

           Macomb Student Technology Summer Camp: Making Movies
Target Audience: Students 10 years to 13 years old

This class will combine the fun of making movies with the opportunity to become a science "mythbuster!" Using digital video cameras, you will create a movie while investigating a science myth. Your movie will include video, photos, images, music, and more as you combine your movie making talents with a little science investigation. Learn the steps involved and produce your own "Science Mythbuster" episode. Limited previous technology knowledge required. Cameras and materials will be furnished.

           Making Movies in the Classroom [A]
The RCA Small Wonder is one of several inexpensive, easy to use cameras on the market you can put into the hands of your students. When combined with Windows Movie Maker, a free download from Microsoft, you have a dynamite video package that can be used for making movies in all subject areas. How about science myth buster movies or student poetry productions? You and your students can include still images, Power Point slides, transitions and other special effects to create really dynamic productions to grab student interest. Your students will love working on video projects! This session will show you how do you use the camera and integrate your videos with Windows Movie Maker. No matter what level you teach, you’ll find ideas for both teacher and student use of these marvelous little “Small Wonders.” Cameras will be available for use at the session, or bring your own along.

           Managing Your Digital Images - (Summer Academy Participants Only)
Managing Your Digital Images The Internet has made it very easy to store, share, and edit pictures online and some companies have provided excellent free resources to keep your images organized. During the online session we will cover three stand-outs which you may want you to try. Picasa is a free Google product that you download to your computer. Picasa helps you organize, edit and manage images on your computer. It allows you to create albums and have a timeline to easily find and view of your images. Roxio’s Photoshow allows you to upload your pictures to the web to create a stunning multimedia slideshows with music, animated stickers, unique borders and title treatments. Picnik has incredibly easy editing tools all online! You can upload photos from a number of online photo storage areas and/or your computer. There are many effects, fonts, shapes and forms to add to your photos if you wish. There are cropping, resizing, and rotating tools. Once you have them edited, you can save and send them back to your computer, or to your favorite online photo storage site. Session: Oct 26th – Time 4:30 – 5:30 Place: Online - Look for directions on to connect one week prior to the session.

           MOST/Blackboard [A]
This workshop is NOT,eligible for Professional Development Funds or offered for CEU credit. The Macomb Online for Students and Teachers (MOST) site (Powered by Blackboard software) is a web-based resource offered by the MISD to every teacher in Macomb County. Many teachers are already using MOST as a way to extend their classroom. Teachers are posting assignments and web resources, creating on-line quizzes, and communicating with their students and parents through MOST. Students are using MOST to keep up-to-date with what is going on in their classroom and some use it as an easy way to transfer documents from home to school. The best part about MOST is that it is very easy to use.

This training will take a “relaxed approach” and will cover all the basics of Blackboard. Ample time will be given for participants to explore and experiment on their personal site. The session is designed to be fun with enough time provided for any level participant to fully grasp how to use Blackboard. For teachers in grades 3-12. (Participants are encouraged to bring files to upload to their site.)
           MOST/Blackboard - ALL DAY
This workshop is NOT eligible for Professional Development Funds or Substitute reimbursement.

This session will cover all the basics in a relaxed atmosphere. It is designed for new users who will learn the latest version of MOST (the Macomb Online Staff Training) site, powered by Blackboard software and is offered to every teacher in Macomb County. Learn to use MOST to extend your classroom - to post assignments, create online quizzes and post links to the Internet. Macomb teachers will leave with their personal ID and site ready for them to use.
           Movie Maker I AM Session - (Summer Academy Participants Only)
Movie Maker I This workshop will introduce the novice user to the basics of the Movie Maker program. You’ll learn: how to import video clips from your Small Wonder camera, basic video clip editing tips, how to add a title slide and the process for turning your project into a movie to share with the world. Please bring your camera and some video clips for editing to class.

           Movie Maker I I PM Session - (Summer Academy Participants Only)
Movie Maker II This workshop is for the intermediate Movie Maker user. You’ll discover how to use Movie Maker to create videos that support the learning experience in your classroom. You’ll learn tips and tricks for turning your Movie Maker creations into videos that really tell a story. Please bring your camera and some video clips for editing to class.

This course will meet virtually using Adobe Connect. Web hits that are aligned to state standards – what a gold mine! Get to know one of the best features available free to educators on Michigan LearnPort – a bank of over 180,000 educator selected online resources aligned by readability level and state standards. Better yet, a read-aloud feature that reads to students and a dictionary/translation feature for ELL/ESL students and comprehension. You will also learn about 21st Century Skills Resources within Nettrekker. Note: Once you have registered, you will be emailed directions on how to set up a Nettrekker account and the web link to access the virtual classroom.

           Podcasting
This workshop is Not,eligible for Professional Development Funds.
The word podcasting comes from combining broadcasting with Apple´s iPod. The good news is you don´t need an iPod to create or listen to a podcast. Students and teachers can easily create a podcast or audio files that can be shared through a MP3 player, a CD, via the web or email or on Blackboard. Students can create their own radio shows, interview people, create stories, do reports and more using AUDACITY, A FREE RECORDING SOFTWARE, and royalty free music. Join us and learn more about podcasting and how to have some fun with audio files you can create.
           PowerPoint in the Classroom
This workshop is Not,eligible for Professional Development Funds. PowerPoint is one of the easiest to use and the most common presentation software on the market today. As a result, most teachers already have the software on their school computers and many use it on a regular basis. In PowerPoint Basics participants will create presentations, slide shows, handouts, and speaker notes. Participants will learn how to import graphics and photos into their presentation and additional tips for creating presentations will also be shared. PowerPoint is a wonderful teaching tool that both you and your students will use extensively.
           Readers Make Leaders - Faraway Home Blogging Project
Registration is open only to Macomb County K-6 teachers. Registrants do not have to be enrolled in the ASK program to participate. Teacher will coordinate blog experience within their classroom.

           Tech Boot Camp for Educators: Technology Tools for Writing
Writing papers has changed, and technology has evolved to make paper writing easier. Whether you are taking a graduate course or require students to complete writing assignments in your classroom, there are many tools to aid the writing process. Learn how to use Microsoft Word’s Track Changes feature. Check out online citation makers, style guides and writing labs. Learn how to cut your search time in half by accessing educational databases with reliable information rather than search engines’ sometimes meaningless hits. Participants will learn to use the tools to make writing papers an educational endeavor, not a challenging chore! Come to Tech Boot Camp for Basic Training!

           Technology Summer Academy - MACOMB COUNTY Teachers Only
Technology Summer Academy will provide interactive hands-on sessions for integrating multimedia into classroom instruction. Sessions themes will be most beneficial to Teachers in grades 3-12.

Participants will receive a pocket camcorder with training for classroom use. In addition participants will receive one (1) virtual fieldtrip up to a value of $150.00 for their classroom.

The academy will be held on August 17 and 18, 2009 with two (2) follow up days in October and November. Sub reimbursement up to $100 will be available for the follow-up days.

SBCEUs will be available for this Academy. Registration ends May 22, 2009.
