Summer Institute on the Project Approach
Session: 7560 The seventh annual Summer Institute on the Project Approach will provide in-depth training in the approach through lecture, project simulation, video clips, observations at the St. Ambrose University Children’s Campus, and handouts. Special guest speaker Chip Donohue will help participants understand how developmentally appropriate technology can support project work. Participants will: • Learn how to implement key events in a project • Discover how to select a topic that will lead to a successful project • Find out about strategies that sustain the life of a project Understand how developmentally-informed technology can support project work • Develop a deep understanding of the role of the teacher and the role of the child in project work through engaging in a simulation • Gain insight into the Project Approach by questioning veteran implementers about their experiences • Observe the Project Approach in action in prekindergarten classrooms. • Learn strategies for organizing and preparing documentation of children’s learning • Evaluate the potential of the Project Approach to support diverse learners • Develop a plan for implementing the Project Approach with their students • Learn how to implement key events in a project • Discover how to select a topic that will lead to a successful project • Find out about strategies that sustain the life of a project • Understand how the Project Approach supports mastery of early learning standards • Develop a deep understanding of the role of the teacher and the role of the child in project work through engaging in a simulation • Gain insight into the Project Approach by questioning veteran implementers about their experiences • Observe the Project Approach in action in prekindergarten classrooms • Learn strategies for organizing and preparing documentation of children’s learning • Evaluate the potential of the Project Approach to support diverse learners • Develop a plan for implementing the Project Approach with your students
