Mississippi Bend AEA will be facilitating a blended version of professional learning to support teachers in implementing the new Iowa Science Standards. This workshop will include an online portion in which teachers will engage in an overview of the standards, participate in an “immersion activity,” learn about the role of phenomena in the standards, and will use the EQuIP rubric to evaluate a lesson for alignment to the standards. At the face-to-face session teachers will begin creating a standards-aligned unit which will include unpacking and bundling standards, selecting an appropriate phenomenon, designing student products, and creating a coherent storyline.
Educators in TLC roles are strongly encouraged to participate and attend the session with teachers from their district.
PREREQUISITE: Understanding of the structure and three-dimensional nature of the science standards is required. If you did not attend the course Implementing the Iowa Science Standards-Year 1, please review these Iowa Science Standards Overview documents.
