Sound and Light
This professional learning is designed to provide the background needed to effectively implement the elementary science curriculum unit. The day will focus on the key concepts in the unit, connections to the newly adopted Iowa Science Standards, science-centered language development, the use of formative and summative assessments in the classroom, outdoor science instruction, and how students make sense of science. It will also provide experience with the investigations in the unit. Practical teacher tips will be offered by experienced teacher facilitators to help with the management of materials-based science instruction. It is expected that all teachers participate in the professional learning prior to teaching the unit.
