Core Understanding

This course is open only to West Liberty CSD educators.

This course will introduce educators to the Iowa Core Math Standards (Practice and Content Standards) with the content based on the meaning and intention of each of the practice standards. Participants will examine the Iowa Core Math Standards with a focus on how to read, develop, and implement the concepts and skills that are embedded within the standards.

This will lead to ongoing discussions of how to create engaging tasks written in a 3 phase lesson plan format of launch, explore, and summarize which will foster a deeper understanding of the Core Math Idea within a lesson(s). Participants will engage in professional readings from NCTM as well as other researched based authors to allow for collaboration among and across grade levels within the district to deepen the understanding of effective Math instruction.
