Iowa Core English Language Arts Grades 3-5: Classroom Implementation

Participants will continue their learning in the Iowa Core English Language Arts with the focus on implementing the Iowa Core through their created lessons delivered in their classrooms. Special emphasis will be on the key shifts for instruction required to reach and prepare students to compete in our global society. After exploring the content and structure of the English Language Arts Standards of the Iowa Core, teachers will continue their learning through collaborative discussions and unit planning. As part of this work, teachers will increase their content knowledge of the English Language Arts Core and strengthen their individual pedagogy. This instruction, (work on the Iowa Core), and teacher involvement will include designing, administering and collecting student assessment data, both formative and summative to ensure maximum learning for each and every student.

Teachers will work collaboratively with colleagues at the grade levels to design and deliver rigorous lessons aligned to the Core embedded in thoughtful focused units of study. Participants will receive coaching from AEA Consultants throughout the course to provide support for this critical work.

Registration for this course will close on August 21, 2013. Registrations processed after the close date of the course will be charged an additional $25 late registration fee.
